Small investment, big impact

  • CUBE consists of a closed box with special patented compound that simulates the chilled goods
  • The CUBE energy-saving sensor is available in 3 sizes: EC101 (see figure) small sensors, EC102 medium-sized sensors and EC103 with large sensors
  • The energy-saving-sensor constantly monitors the temperature of the chilled goods
  • The system is installed as part of normal cold-rooms servicing
  • The existing equipment is used
  • Maintenance-free and indestructible (no electronics or moving parts)
  • Availability: no restrictions
  • Unlimited durability – can continue to be used even when refrigeration equipment is replaced
  • Ten-year comprehensive warranty

A mini revolution in food refrigeration

With the CUBE energy-saving sensor, the actual temperature of the chilled goods gets imitated, rather than the air in the cold store. This enables an up to 20 % reduction in power costs, and consequently less time and expense required to service and repair refrigeration systems. The CUBE energy-saving sensor with special patented compound and temperature sensor is simply installed inside the refrigeration unit.

Cube Sensor

Traditional refrigeration cycle.
Sensor measure air temperature!

  • Compressor starts when temperature rises above set value
  • Up to 50 operation cycles (starts/stops) per day (depending on season)
  • High energy consumption

Sensors mimic temperature 10 mm below the surface!

  • Compressor starts when temperature rises
  • No more than 15 operational cycles (starts/stops) per day (depending on season)
  • Up to 20 % power saving
  • Two Kelvins (degrees) cooler while also enabling slightly reduced/the same power consumption
  • Up to 20 % reduction in power consumption, and thus fewer CO2 emissions.

Up to 20 % lower power costs
The saving

POWER SAVINGS

  • Up to 65 % reduction in refrigeration cycles
  • Longer lasting equipment and lower servicing costs
  • Power consumption reduced by approx. 20 %
  • ROI in maximum 24 months

The power saving is facilitated by the reduced number of refrigeration cycles. The graph here clearly shows the huge drop in refrigeration cycles following installation of the energy-saving-sensor, which gears the refrigeration process exclusively around the temperature of the chilled goods. The reason for the high number of refrigeration cycles on the left is the old approach of regulating temperature based on air movement within the refrigeration device, with every movement registered by the sensor triggering a refrigeration cycle.

ANNUAL COMPARISON FROM MAY TO AUGUST

  • The sensors map the core temperature
  • The compressor starts when the temperature rises
  • No more than 15 operational cycles per day (depending on season)
  • Power saving of up to 20 %

Power consumption and energy saving change throughout the year based on outdoor temperature. The greatest saving is naturally achieved when power consumption is highest due to elevated outdoor temperatures. For the rest, the degree of saving is also dependent on the condition and age of the refrigeration units: it is greater for older systems, whose basic consumption is higher, than for the latest systems.

Up to 20 % lower repair costs

Fewer refrigeration cycles automatically reduce the wear and tear on refrigeration systems. The CUBE energy-saving-sensor decreases the number of refrigeration cycles by up to 65 %, which also means lower repair costs. Unplanned downtimes resulting from overloading drop dramatically. Our experience to date has shown that this reduces repair costs by a good 20 %, which is why CUBE perfectly supports our strategy of reducing repair and servicing costs.

Return on investment in 12 to 24 months

Return on investment is an essential parameter for assessing investment profitability. A value of between 12 and 24 months is considered a very good reference point in the industry. The substantial 12-month time span is due not to the basic costs for CUBE, but rather to the equipment available. For the rest, the exact ROI time frame can be determined very accurately in advance, because it is effectively based on the latest power-consumption reading and the data collected using CUBE, e.g. during a two-month test phase. So you know, right from the time of signing the contract, when you will start to earn a net profit from the investment.

Installing a CUBE in a chiller cabinet is usually child’s play. We also work with you to find the best time to make the conversion.

First, we empty the cabinet of goods, storing them temporarily in a chest refrigerator.

Then we disassemble the cover plate on the rear wall.

The energy sensor is very simply attached using a screw …

… CUBE is cabled up …

… and connected to the regulator. Launch and adjustment are then a matter of minutes.

CUBE itself contains a special compound that imitates the chilled goods. In this way, we can exactly measure their temperature and control cooling accordingly. This markedly reduces consumption.

Then the cover plate is reattached.

The last thing to do is to refill the cabinet.

Done! The whole lot usually doesn’t take more than two hours. And electricity starts being saved directly after.

Cooperation with the EG Group
Advantages clearly known

Reprint of the Kälte-Aktiv Team GmbH from: EG for you! Magazine of the EG Group, April 2022

It is great to be able to do something good. Even more so if a partner fully recognises and responds to it. This is excellent form, but sadly no longer an everyday occurrence in the business world. So we were all the more pleased about an interview given by Dunja Honisch of the EG Group, clearly summarising the advantages of our CUBE energy-saving-sensor in an article for the company’s internal magazine, “eg für Sie”. “Investment costs paid off after twelve months; net profit for users for at least 14 years at the level of the investment costs.”

Interview with Mrs. Dunja Honisch: Saving energy with rising electricity prices and installing CUBE in 90 minutes.

This clear support for CUBE and KAT (Kälte Aktiv Team) is all the more pleasing to us as we ourselves know Mrs Honisch to be a smart, critical negotiator for the EG Group. The Group operates around 1000 petrol stations in Germany under the names Esso and OMV, thus being one of the leaders in the sector here.

Experiences with CUBE

The CUBE energy-saving-sensor has been in use for a long time, and has proven its worth excellently all over the world. And for good reason, because the measurement readings show 10-20 % less power consumption and a reduction of up to 65 % in cycle numbers – with the same level of refrigeration.
